Analysis & Interpretation
The qualitative analysis of the artifacts revealed a rich data set within the eight areas of focus. Traditional qualitative themes and arts informed interpretations tied to 3 main research questions: What are the content and themes contained in the Clothesline project? What does it mean to experience violence? What is this collection of voices? The eight theme areas focus on composition of the texts as well as content. The themes are described in terms of frequency within the narrative collection and include narrative expression, narrative type, use of symbols, color -shirt and letter, relationships indicated, type of violence, social justice issues, and gender -perpetration and victimization. These interrelated analytic processes allowed me to look at recurring themes emerging from the data, specific linguistic choices and potential meaning suggested therein, and finally possible themes or messages conveyed through the texts themselves.
