Welcome
Patricia Maarhuis is an educator, researcher, and artist at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. From her base in Health and Wellness Services, she works across multiple disciplines and departments. Patricia’s practice focuses on the intersections between education, high risk experiences and behaviors, and cultural contexts. Reflection upon the philosophical, cultural, and especially the aesthetic dimensions of education informs her research, teaching, and service. She is interested in interdisciplinary research which considers relational connections between individual contexts and the broader community environment. Specifically, Patricia explores how interdisciplinary research can:
- generate new understanding in research and pedagogical practice;
- provide innovative methods for teaching and learning;
- be used in dialog about difficult topics, high risk behavior, cultural contexts, & social justice;
- expand dissemination by engaging various audiences in different venues and modes of expression.
